The rumors have been substantiated. Keeping a focus on a growing international market and on spreading the latest technology across the world, Google announced recently that it will be making the Nexus 5 available in India.
The Nexus 5 made its way onto the Indian market just a few short weeks ago. Prior to its release, price estimates for the new gadget ranged from Rs 28,999 (around $455 USD) for the 16GB model to Rs 32,999 (around $517 USD) for the 32GB model.
Previously available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, Germany, France and Korea, the smartphone is referenced as the slimmest and fastest Nexus phone made up until this point. With a new lens that captures more light than its predecessors for brighter night images and sharper, less-blurry action, shots and the latest version of the Android operating system, also known as KitKat, the device was built by Google in a partnership with LG.
Specifications of the Nexus 5
What has most potential users excited are the specifications, some of which are unheard of in the Android marketplace.
Available in black and white and with a 5-inch full HD touch screen display – with a 1920×1080 pixel resolution – the smartphone measures 69.17mm x 137.84mm x 8.59mm and weighs in at 130 gm. A 2,300 mAh battery from LG is expected to provide 17 hours of talk time, 8.5 hours of Internet usage and browsing, and 300 hours of standby time, which is unmatched in the industry and bests the previous offering of the Nexus 4 in a variety of capacities.
The Android 4.4 KitKat operating system is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU and 450 MHZ Andreno 330 GPU. The device is equipped with 2GB of RAM.
As previously mentioned, the smartphone’s camera is also a work of engineering art with an 8 mega pixel autofocus rear system complete with optical image stabilization and an LED flash that can capture HD photos and videos at a full 30 frames per second. The camera capabilities of this phone are so good that you could get a job providing newspaper ad help or shooting your own YouTube commercials, just using your smartphone! The new camera mode – HDR+, which automatically snaps a rapid set of photos, combining them to produce the highest quality image/single shot available – has potential users especially excited.
The Nexus 5 is also equipped with the “OK Google” feature, which allows users to set commands, make a call and send texts through voice commands.
Expected to be fully functional across the country, the Nexus 5 has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 3G and LTE connectivity and is equipped with a microUSB port for easy data transfer and storage.
Availability
While the release date has not been available, dealers are eagerly anticipating the announcement and many have started selling pre-orders. Snapdeal is offering a pre-order option with an Rs 999 deposit and Flipkart is also expected to sell the product, but no pricing specs are available at this time.
Compared to its competitors on the Indian market, including the Nokia Lumia 925, the HTC 8X, the LG Optimus G, the Sony Experia ZL and the Lenovo K900, the device’s competitive pricing and top-notch features are expected to be a hit.
