iPhone 13: The iOS 15 trick that gets you free iCloud storage

Read Time:3 Minute, 39 Second

With iOS 15, Apple updates ways you can transfer your items from one iPhone to another. And it is good news because iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 pro and 13 pro max has a new camera, faster performance and longer battery life. But you still need to move all your messages, photos, videos and music from your old iPhone.

There are three ways to transfer goods from your old iPhone to the new one. If you run MacOS Catalina or newer, you can plug your iPhone into your Mac with a charging cable and use the Finder. It’s fast, but you need a Mac and enough space for it for a backup file.

You can also use Apple’s direct data migration tool that copies your old cellphone to a new one without using a computer or iCloud. The disadvantage of this process is that you will not be able to use the cellphone until the transfer process is complete, which can take an hour or more to solve it.

Then there is using iCloud to make a transfer. Upside to Process This is you don’t need to be tied to a computer and you will have access to your old cellphone when you only download your backup file. The downside is that you need enough storage on your iCloud account to fit the backup file. If you are on Apple 5GB iCloud Tier, it might not be enough.

You can pay Apple a few dollars a month for further storage. But if you prefer no, you can use iOS 15 to borrow some of the iCloud storage for free to back up your old iPhone. This is the way you do it.

First, increase your old iPhone to iOS 15. It will work on the iPhone 6S ($ 210 on eBay) or newer. Depending on the speed of your Wi-Fi network, it can take time to download and install. It took about 20 minutes.

After the update is complete, open the settings, general and tap on the new option: Transfer or Reset the iPhone. A new page will appear. Under the preparation for the new iPhone section, tap Start.

The pop-up window is called an extra iCloud to move applications and data will appear. Read and when you are ready to press the Continue button. You might see iCloud reserves turned off the message. If you do this, tap Turn on the backup to transfer. This doesn’t appear for me.

Next, the transfer data for all your application screens will appear. Read. There is a list of applications that do not synchronize their data with iCloud. Tap the transfer of all application data with the iCloud button. Another screen appears explaining what you can do with your old iPhone. Read, or not. Then press the Blue Done button.

Your old iPhone will begin to retreat to iCloud. If you look at the main page in the setting, you will see a new section that says, “iCloud Backup is ongoing.” After the backup is complete, the new section in the settings will read, “Ready for your new iPhone.”

You can start this process up to 21 days before buying a new iPhone. Just remember that there is a new text, iMessages, photos or videos will not be in that reserve. If your new iPhone doesn’t arrive in 21 days, you can get an additional 21 days to restore your temporary backup before you are removed by opening the settings and tapping it back up it longer.

When your new iPhone arrives, is it an iPhone 13 or more, turn it on and follow the instructions to complete tasks such as entering a passcode, set the face ID and approve Apple Terms and Conditions. Finally, you will end up on the screen that offers you various ways to transfer your data, choose restore from iCloud. Then enter iCloud with Apple ID and the same password with your old iPhone.

Select the latest backup and follow the instructions, after that your backup file will start downloading to your new iPhone. After the download is complete, your new iPhone will reboot and your application will have finished downloading. All photos, emails, contacts, appointments, and your message will be there.

You might be wondering, what happens to iCloud backup while when you finish? This will remain available for seven days and then permanently removed.
