It is estimated that 12 million people become a victim of identity theft each year. Many people do not even know that there are doing things that are putting them at risk for becoming a victim of this crime. Some people post that they will be going for vacation for an extended period of time on their Twitter or Facebook page. That might seem harmless, but it could be an invitation for a burglar to come into one’s home.

Many people also make the mistake of saving passwords to computers that do not belong to them. Even if you are using a friend or family member’s computer, you still want to make sure that you log out of your Facebook, Twitter and other accounts.

Furthermore, if you are expecting a big tax refund check in the mail, then you should avoid telling everyone about it. You also want to make sure that you watch your mail very carefully.
